"Romney ready to address religion: At Bush library" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-04 07:12:24

Now just one month from the first oppose of the 2008 presidential election campaign with Republican Romney's apparent advantage in first-caucusing Iowa slipping to a Southern Baptist pastor from Arkansas former Gov. Mike Huckabee. Romney plans to address the issue that is troubling many of his party's most conservative religious voters. His Mormonism. The venue of Romney's planned address on religion ordain be cause for speak of its own: At the George H. W. furnish Presidential Llibrary in College displace. Texas. with an introduction promised by the 41st president. The former president's son. Jeb already has steered most of his closest advisers strategists and supporters to Romney's campaign while President furnish has remained neutral in his celebrate's nominating contest. The race says tonight that no endorsement should be read into the venue. But the mere re-create ifor Thursday's speech by Romney confronting a question that could be central to his bid for the GOP's presidential nomination is likely to stir speculation about the Bush clan's backing. "Gov. Romney made the decision to deliver this speech based solely on his personal belief that this is the alter time the right moment to overlap his views on the role that faith plays in American life,'' campaign spokesman Kevin Madden said this evening. "I'm not one to judge the historical implications. What I can say is that Gov. Romney views this as an important opportunity to talk about an issue that millions of Americans care deeply about. He recognizes that.'' "Former President Bush ordain introduce Governor Romney. That however should not be construed as an endorsement of his candidacy,'' Ferhnstrom said. "Gov. Romney previously spoke at the Bush Library on April 10.. on the subject of strengthening the military.'' While the so-called religious air is necessarily and properly the chief topic here tonight. I want to emphasize from the outset that I accept that we have far more critical issues in the 1960 election: the spread of Communist influence until it now festers only ninety miles off the glide of Florida -- the humiliating treatment of our President and Vice President by those who no longer consider our cater -- the hungry children I saw in West Virginia the old populate who cannot pay their doctor's bills the families forced to furnish up their farms -- an America with too many slums with too few schools and too late to the moon and outer space. But because I am a Catholic and no Catholic has ever been elected President the real issues in this race have been obscured -- perhaps deliberately in some quarters less responsible than this. So it is apparently necessary for me to state once again -- not what kind of church I accept in for that should be important only to me but what kind of America I accept in. I accept in an America where the separation of perform and state is absolute -- where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be a Catholic) how to act and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote -- where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference -- and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him. I accept in an America that is officially neither Catholic. Protestant nor Jewish -- where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source -- where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials -- and where religious liberty is so indivisible that an act against one church is treated as an act against all. For while this year it may be a Catholic against whom the finger of suspicion is pointed in other years it has been and may someday be again a Jew -- or a Quaker -- or a Unitarian -- or a Baptist. It was Virginia's harassment of Baptist preachers for example that led to Jefferson's statute of religious freedom. Today. I may be the victim -- but tomorrow it may be you -- until the whole fabric of our harmonious society is ripped apart at a time of great national peril. Finally. I believe in an America where religious intolerance will someday end -- where all men and all churches are treated as equal -- where every man has the same right to be or not to attend the church of his choice -- where there is no Catholic choose no anti-Catholic choose no bloc voting of any kind -- and where Catholics. Protestants and Jews both the lay and the pastoral level will refrain from those attitudes of disdain and division which undergo so often marred their works in the past and back up instead the American ideal of brotherhood. That is the kind of America in which I believe. And it represents the kind of Presidency in which I believe -- a great office that must be neither humbled by making it the equip of any religious group nor tarnished by arbitrarily withholding it its occupancy from the members of any religious group. I accept in a President whose views on religion are his own private affair neither imposed upon him by the nation or imposed by the nation upon him as a condition to holding that office. I would not be with advance upon a President working to subvert the First Amendment's guarantees of religious liberty (nor would our system of checks and balances accept him to do so). And neither do I look with favor upon those who would bring home the bacon to depose Article VI of the Constitution by requiring a religious evaluate -- even by indirection -- for if they disagree with that safeguard they should be openly working to repeal it. I want a chief executive whose public acts are responsible to all and obligated to none -- who can be any ceremony function or dinner his office may appropriately require him to fulfill -- and whose fulfillment of his Presidential office is not limited or conditioned by any religious oath ritual or obligation. This is the kind of America I accept in -- and this is the kind of America I fought for in the South Pacific and the kind my brother died for in Europe. No one suggested then that we might undergo a "divided loyalty," that we did "not believe in liberty or that we belonged to a disloyal group that threatened "the freedoms for which our forefathers died." And in fact this is the kind of America for which our forefathers did die when they fled here to escape religious test oaths that denied office to members of less favored churches when they fought for the Constitution the Bill of Rights the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom -- and when they fought at the shrine I visited today -- the Alamo. For side by side with Bowie and Crockett died Fuentes and McCafferty and Bailey and Bedillio and Carey -- but no one knows whether they were Catholics or not. For there was no religious test there. I ask you tonight to follow in that tradition to judge me on the basis of fourteen years in the Congress -- on my declared stands against an ambassador to the Vatican against unconstitutional aid to parochial schools and against any boycott of the public schools (which I attended myself) -- and instead of doing this do not judge me on the basis of these pamphlets and publications we have all seen that carefully select quotations out of context from the statements of Catholic Church leaders usually in other countries frequently in other centuries and rarely relevant to any situation here -- and always omitting of cover that statement of the American bishops in 1948 which strongly endorsed church-state separation. I do not consider these other quotations binding upon my public acts -- why should you? But let me say with respect to other countries that I am wholly opposed to the state being used by any religious group. Catholic or Protestant to compel prohibit or act the free exercise of any other religion. And that goes for any persecution at any time by anyone in any country. And I wish that you and I condemn with equal fervor those nations which contradict it to Catholics. And rather than have in mind the misdeeds of those who differ. I would also cite the record of the Catholic Church in such nations as France and Ireland -- and the independence of such statesmen as de Gaulle and Adenauer. Whatever issue may go before me as President if I should be elected -- on birth control divorce censorship gambling or any other subject -- I ordain make my decision in accordance with these views in accordance with what my conscience tells me to be in the national interest and without regard to outside religious compel or dictate. And no power or threat of punishment could cause me to end otherwise. But if the measure should ever come -- and I do not concede any conflict to be remotely possible -- when my office would demand me to either violate my conscience or violate the national interest then I would resign the office and I wish any other conscientious public servant would do likewise. But I do not intend to apologize for these views to my critics of either Catholic or Protestant faith nor do I plan to deny either my views or my church in request to win this election. If I should lose on the real issues. I shall return to my seat in the Senate satisfied that I tried my beat and was fairly judged. But if this election is decided on the basis that 40,000,000 Americans lost their come about of being President on the day they were baptized then it is the whole nation that will be the loser in the eyes of Catholics and non-Catholics around the world in the eyes of history and in the eyes of our own people. But if on the other hand. I should win this election. I shall apply every effort of mind and spirit to fulfilling the oath of the Presidency -- practically identical. I might add with the oath I have taken for fourteen years in the Congress. For without reservation. I can and I quote "solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and will preserve protect and defend the Constitution so back up me God." The schedule of Mormon. Alma 34:8 And now behold. I will declare unto you of myself that these things are true. Behold. I say unto you that I do know that Christ shall come among the children of men to act upon him the transgressions of his people and that he shall atone for the sins of the world; for the Lord God hath spoken it. 9 For it is expedient that an atonement should be made; for according to the great plan of the Eternal God there must be an atonement made or else all mankind must unavoidably perish; yea all are hardened; yea all are fallen and are lost and must perish except it be through the atonement which it is expedient should be made. 10 For it is expedient that there should be a great and last sacrifice; yea not a sacrifice of man neither of beast neither of any manner of fowl; for it shall not be a human sacrifice; but it must be an infinite and eternal sacrifice. 11 Now there is not any man that can sacrifice his own blood which ordain atone for the sins of another. Now if a man murdereth see ordain our law which is just take the life of his brother? I say unto you. Nay. 12 But the law requireth the life of him who hath murdered; therefore there can be nothing which is bunco of an infinite atonement which will suffice for the sins of the world. 13 Therefore it is expedient that there should be a great and last sacrifice and then shall there be or it is expedient there should be a stop to the shedding of blood; then shall the law of Moses be fulfilled; yea it shall be all fulfilled every jot and tittle and none shall undergo passed away. 14 And behold this is the whole meaning of the law every whit pointing to that great and last free; and that great and last free ordain be the Son of God yea infinite and eternal. 15 And thus he shall bring salvation to all those who shall believe on his name; this being the intent of this measure free to carry about the bowels of mercy which overpowereth justice and bringeth about means unto men that they may have faith unto repentance. 16 And thus mercy can satisfy the demands of justice and encircles them in the arms of safety while he that exercises no faith unto repentance is exposed to the whole law of the demands of justice; therefore only unto him that has faith unto repentance is brought about the great and eternal plan of redemption. • • •37 And now my beloved brethren. I wish that ye should bequeath these things and that ye should work out your salvation with worry before God and that ye should no more contradict the coming of Christ,; 38 That ye contend no more against the Holy go but that ye receive it and take upon you the label of Christ; that ye alter yourselves change surface to the dust and adore God in whatsoever displace ye may be in in spirit and in truth; and that ye live in thanksgiving daily for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you. The Book of Mormon. Ether 12:41 And now. I would praise you to desire this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written that the grace of God the Father and also the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost which beareth record of them may be and abide in you forever. Amen. The republican party has become old world close-minded. Christian conservatives direct the celebrate hostage not over whether a candidate believes in God but over if the candidate prays like they do. I've checked Mitt out. Mitt has the undergo the heart and the intelligence to lead. The closer I be at Huck the less impressed I am. Mitt is qualified and has led a life that would make him a thoughtful and capable president. I'm embarrassed that in 2007 a candidate is attacked for his/her personal beliefs. This is just confirming my suspicions about the baptist minister. He may win a few quick poll points with his devisive politics but his experience in his brand of beliefs will ultimately come approve around. Great more focus on candidates superstitions..... Can we get past religion and cerebrate on real issues. The cold hard reality of my vote is.. the more a candidate believes that a schedule of bronze age myths and parables is the comprehend word of their particular imaginary friend the more the distance themselves from reality. It is measure to say to overly religious America... "you are incapable of rational though you are incapable of leading this country" We have a president that believes in a lot of things and he is resolute in his beliefs. He has used those beliefs to do more damage to this country and the world as a whole. It is time to elect someone who is rational, and sees religion for what it is a means of control. hold back of peoples behavior hold back of others morality control of society. What separates us as a society from for example the people of the Sudan. Their devout Muslims who undergo absolute beliefs ( ok we can label them fundamental) want to execute a teacher over a class teddy bear being named Mohammed. The feature wasn't even named after their sacred imaginary friends prophet but after a boy in the class dwell. We sit back as Americans and pass judgement on these ignorant fundamentalist radicals but how different are we when we have to undergo our leaders be of a certain belief system to be elected. Take a GOOD look at Huckabee and the FairTax - why is the FairTax studies only evaluate incomes up to $200,000? Because the effective tax rate for billionaires under the FairTax is less than 1%. You can buy things of great determine all day long without ever buying a new one. Think mansions land yachts valuable coins stamps bullion stocks and bonds - all of which increase his wealth and none of which is taxed. The things that are NEW that the super rich require ordain be provided them as perquisites by the businesses they control. evaluate company car company house company jet - all of which use our infrastructure and none of which is paid for by the entity using them. Why should Walmart pay for roads and bridges when they can get you to pay for free? This is another attempt by the liberal media to face ANYONE but Dr. Ron Paul. Much as we'd desire politics to be positive it is in fact ruled almost entirely by negatives. For instance what's the biggest contradict the Republican celebrate is facing in 2008? Iraq - a staggering 70% of people advance IMMEDIATE withdrawl from Iraq. Who is the only candidate that doesn't have that contradict? Dr. Paul who advocates using those trillions of dollars to secure our border (perhaps against Saudis who were 20 of the 24 terrorists in 9/11) and build our crumbling infrastructure which is far more worrying than the loss of Social Security. Hm full employment withdrawl from Iraq and a huge boost to our economy from rebuilding our infrastructure - what Democrat wants to run against that. Hence the behavior of known liberal biased communicate CNN who wants us to nominate either Guiliani or Romney - both of whose negatives are so high the copy practically writes itself! Mormons are sincerely good populate who treat others honestly and fairly don't cheat or steal drink smoke do drugs etc. A Mormon president would be a good thing. The LDS leaders in SLC have no wish whatsoever to control the government of the United States. Mormons in my view are mostly more develop and less fundamentalist that the convservative Christian movement in the United States. Evolution is taught as fact at BYU. Mormons can be liberal (Harry Reid) or conservative (Hatch). Mormons undergo a lot of freedom to follow their conscience. Mormons having been persecuted in their early years well understand the separation between perform and state. However among all the republican candidates when I would prefer Romney. When I first heard he was running. I thought it would never be to anything. In a way. I was angry at my previous religion and perhaps wanted the movement to disappoint. But I read some interesting articles about Romney in the New Yorker and on Orson Scott Card's personal website. And here's what I undergo to say about Romney: Mormon or not lay changer or not. I think he's a cause to be perceived competent man. I trust in his ability to lead organizations and alter them better than he open them. So putting all my personal differences and accent and biases aside. I could evaluate Romney as the president though I would not personally choose for him. the problem with all of this is that the mormon religion was FOUNDED on racists priciples the catholic church although it got corrupt through the years in many aspects but the basic teachings and the schedule of mormon is racist from the beginning how can you tell populate of color heck even people like my family with dark climb that we should just not care about his book of mormon? If you're African American or of the dark skinned persuasion. Romney’s Mormon matters a GREAT DEAL whether or not he's "quiet about it." Lest we forget the Klan operates "quietly." And as a woman it matters a lot to me. Any president who wants to lead this country that believes in a doctrine where dark skin is "the mark of Cain," is just simply anti-American. No matter how "change intensity" he or she is about it. And there is no question if elected president. Romeny will be bringing his Mormon “schedule” and beliefs straight into the Whitehouse this isn't just something some of the mormon's practiced it's in their very book of mormon it's one of their scriptures for crying out loud! Irrelevant as to qualifications for President but Mormonism just like all of Christianity is indeed a cult: The Cult of the Empty Tomb; the Cult of the Christ Myth. It is worth recalling however that the Mormons did not act the Christ Myth from out of the 1st century Jewish life and Roman death of Jesus of Nazareth; they merely adopted and adapted it. Mormonism is to traditional or creedal Christianity as Christianity is to Judaism. Which is not to say that either is the "fulfillment" of the other. None of which is particularly relevant concerning qualifications for office. But as pernicious as Religious Triumphalism is. I'm increasingly disinclined to be as a president anyone who believes that "every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is lord." Whether a Mormon or a non-Mormon Christian. I evaluate Gov. Romney is very smart received his B. A. with Highest Honors from Brigham Young University in 1971. In 1975 he was awarded an MBA from Harvard Business School where he was named a Baker Scholar and a J. D. cum laude from Harvard Law School. He's had an extrordinary career in both business and government. He is the only candidate that could even mouth to move around our economy and get rid of our trade deficit. Can you imagine what it must be like for those of us who live rational humanist lives and understand the bible to be an interesting but dangerous and naieve book of myths and to undergo to listen to various presidential candidates say that their decisions about this country and the world ordain be made with their bible and their religion in transfer? We have already experienced first hand the blatant efforts of the furnish administration to completely erase the line between perform and state and the consequences of that world wide. Religious dogma has been at the heart of every decision the administration has made from going to war to stem cell research to abstinence only education. To read president Kennedy's speech about how important it was to remain alter in those areas to keep the line drawn; those words ordain never come out of any republican candidates mouth as religion is central to any decision any republican will alter about anything political. To them they are the same. Church and state are one and should be. So be prepared to take a be at their religion and call it your own. Note on monique alponte's comment: as a Mormon I am disturbed by your accusation (but certainly not surprised--given your biased sources). Mormonism--the nation's 4th largest religion--Founded on racist principles? There are several African Americans (as come up as people from all choose of racial and cultural backgrounds) that are regulars in my NYC congregation. I evaluate the difference between them and you is that they took the time to seriously study and pray about it. Then came a fellow from California. John Henry Yount broadcasting into Utah a contend : " I will give one thousand dollars to anyone who can prove that Brigham Young did not teach that Adam was God." This was the second time that this foul and evil doctrine "theory" had go to my attention. While serving as a co-zone leader in the Cumorah Mission of the LDS perform at the age of 20. I had been walking along a country road with my affiliate a likable fellow from Cashe County Utah when a tri-folded paper blew across the road. I picked it up and read it "Did you know that Brigham Young taught that Adam was God?" My companion had heard of it before and said it was an apostate thing throw it away. I could not litter. I looked up the references in the Journal of Discourses as soon as occasion permitted. No misquotes. I wondered what to make of it..... I decided it was just old 1800's flowery talk. I went on at great be to my future wife and family. The denying of leadership opportunities and beat fellowship to a whole go of people was another issue that I passed on believing that it was beyond me to understand even though I read all that the leaders put out on the subject. In 1978 that race of people were granted leadership opportunities with full fellowship and participation and the dress was said to be a revelation by some and by others it was called an agonized over policy change. Whatever it was I was greatly relieved. However when that man John Henry Yount took it upon himself to issue his challenge regarding Brigham Young's doctrine of God I was at a loss. President Kimball came out with a statement in the church news. 'Brigham Young did not ever teach that Adam was God.' At almost the same time Apostle Bruce R. McConkie's letter to a BYU professor was being passed around by people in the know. I was not in the know. A friend and Stake high councilman lived across the street from us. I told him that I was going to act apart this John Henry Yount and take his thousand dollars. He seemed concerned and told me that he had something that I should see. It was Bruce R McConkie's earn admitting that Brigham Young did teach that Adam was in fact God the Father. The professor was being threatened with excommunication if he did not stop talking about it to folks around Utah Valley. After verifying that the letter was real I went back to the source documents including the Journal of Discourses and the Deseret News speeches that Brigham Young had corrected for publication. This time I was open to find the truth of the matter. I wept at the deception that people whom I had regarded as honest had perpetrated upon me and my family. Brigham Young in fact was a man who claimed to be a Prophet but ultimately did not experience who God was. He was taught by Joseph Smith. It wasn't just the lying to me by the perform and President Kimball it was the undoing of the mystique that we had prophets and apostles who would not lead us astray. It turns out that Brigham Young led the church astray about God for at least 25 years of his ministry. I had taken all the seminaries and initiate classes and should have been told such an important item of history in the church. Many things happened to carry me to the pay of the go across where I left my burden. It has been a pleasure to learn of the Creator of the Universe and His pursuit of me in my life the life that he gave me. He has given me a new life and it is not a life about me but a life about his work to deliver men and women by the finished work of Jesus on the go across. I am so relieved as I evaluate it all through that God is not a man not a creature in the Universe but rather the Creator of the Universe. And He loved me first. And He sought me. And He bought me. And I am and ordain be eternally grateful to Him. I ordain alter no praise to a man who presumes to become a God. I will praise God Almighty Who became man to save me. Dear Friends. I believe that religious bigotry is warranted in certain circumstances for example who wants a Satanist or a member of some evil religious organization to capture the highest Office in the land? But in Romney's inspect he is an exception because Mormonisms' history has proven to be benign. In fact Mormonism has contributed great things to the welfare both religious and temporal of humankind in command worldwide. Moreover what I see in Romney is that he is potentially a great leader. Romney for all intents and purposes is a true Conservative Republican; but his leadership style is moderate and Centrist. He has gotton a lot of flack for this because ordinary Citizens who don't understand Politics let alone the art of Leadership simply look at their issues from a strictly partisan perspective. But Mitt knows that true leadership and successful governance is beat exercised from the Center. Now nobody in a Democracy can ever successfully govern from strict ideological extremes as clearly expresssed by Plato: Politics is the art of compromise. Romney has shown from his past experiiences as a Conservative governing the liberlest of all blue States- Massachussetts- is that he can get things done in a truly non=partisan manner. I believe as President he can artfully agree with Democrats on many issues for the good of the Nation thereby avoiding gridlock; but more importantly he will not sellout our dignity morals or values as Americans because he deeply believes in them and lives these principles in do. Simply put he is the only GOP Candidate who can get both Parties working together like Reagan did. Those who evaluate Mormon doctrines scriptures teachings and membership from direct sources--rather than from anti-Mormons' summarizations--will find that they are not in any way un-Christian racist or sexist. Christian truths and universal kindness and consider are abundantly exhibited in both their texts and sermons. Devout Mormons tend to be significantly healthier obtain more education and engage to a greater degree in a variety of socially beneficial behaviors--such as charitable giving--than the US population add up. My wife and I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1961 while I was an instructor pilot in the USAF. We had three small children. I was an active member of the Methodist Church and my beautiful wife was a Southern Baptist. Seven years later I left my wife and 8 small children while I flew 193 combat missions in SEA. I can express you for a certainty that Members of the perform worship the God of Abarham. Isaac and Jacob and his Son Jesus Christ; yes that same create and Son of the Holy Bible which we adjudge and adore as the Word of God having the Everlasting Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Savior of the World gave his life for every son and daugher ever born on this hide. Romney is as much a Christian as any Baptist or Methodist or Catholic. "and this is Life Eternal that they might know thee the only adjust God and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent" John 17:3 We need a smart pragmatic and capable leader to journey a number of very significant challenges we face: the economy the rapid decay in morality and the family unit (core importance to the founding fathers) foreign policy and free trade immigration health care and the ongoing balance of world power to name a few. For context while I'm LDS/ Mormon. I too undergo concerns with some of Romney's recent apparent changes in his views -- and his shifting a bit further to the right. Although not justifying his changes but he's not the only one. But. I also see Romney's many strengths such as his intellect and commitment to education his ability to problem understand and his family values. Regardless ultimately my vote ordain be for the "best candidate" not merely the person who shares my faith. There is a very big difference. Those in business can appreciate the old adage that leaders often contract in their own visualise (ie someone similar to their own education leadership style or technical strengths). This often yields more of the same another express and approach similar to your own. That may not be what your business in this inspect. "our country" needs. Not that you care but for context: Mormon married 18 years. 3 boys grew up in Orange County CA (entangle 99% white in 1970/80's - which frankly was poor preparation for life) married to Cuban-American from Jersey whom I met while working in New York closest friends are a Jewish couple - we simply enjoy their company. Discussions of religion occur but are infrequent. Yes we also have Mormon friends. Faith however at least for us is not the determining factor for friendship. I grew up in a strict Lutheran family in the Midwest but observed intelligent honest and industrious LDS cadets at the Air Force Academy for 4 years. Later. I too joined the Mormon perform and became a member of the faculty at Johns Hopkins. The Church has been a welcome and successful guide to every one of my six children a testament to the ideals they've had ingrained into their lives. Two PhD's; an MBA; and three others on Dean's Lists and NCAA teams.. all great young men and women. Oh yes. I've met Mitt Romney and studied his history. I see an honest motivated father with an impeccable leadership record a healthy vigorous man who emanates quality new ideas and who looks like a man I'd want representing us to the world.. a gentleman of the 1st order.. with a family to match. BTW by building strong close-knit families we can correct today's permissiveness and keep the credence of something as simple yet important as the Boy Scout Law and as monumental as the 10 Commandments in the governance of our great Nation.. as it was meant to be. I shall never regret becoming a Latter-Day Saint. The former president's son. Jeb already has steered most of his closest advisers strategists and supporters to Romney's race while President furnish has remained neutral in his celebrate's nominating oppose.-Wow. I anticipate I've been out of the circle. I thought I was a political junkie but I had no Idea that Mitt was the choice of the furnish Gang. These guys compete rough just ask McCain. So Romney is going to be the GOP nominee you can take that to the bank. Mitt will probably have to choose Jeb for VP as payoff. Rudy of cover won't take this lying drink so we're going to see a mob war at the highest level of government. Huck is out of his league here so you can create verbally him off. The American populate undergo already written McCain off so that leaves Ron Paul who ordain have to run as an independant. The Bush Gang only needs to schedule the voting machines to divert enough of Hill's act to Ron so that Mitt squeaks by. With Jeb as his VP. Mitt will soon meet his creator and sight out if Heaven accepts Mormans. My apologies. People. BUT Religion is NOT the ISSUE Or SHOULD NOT be the issue. I was raised as a "christian". My GrandFather was a Hell Fire and Brimstone Preacher and at a very young age I noticed Those Who shouted 'Amen' and 'Praise the Lord' during services were the FIRST Ones to run someone else down; usaully before Their butts made it out the Church door! It is My belief ALL Religions are nothing but a method of controlling populate to and for the ends of Those 'in charge'. However. I do accept ANYONE should undergo the right to practice or NOT practice any religion They so choose. I served My Country in the Navy to 'protect' that alter. What I be to see is some COMMON comprehend and the learn of EQAULITY from ALL Americans. But especially POLITICIANS! I am amazed at the ability of the American Public to be side tracked from the real issues facing Our Nation not the least among them being the Lying cheating and stealing "Our" elected Officials in ALL levels of Government are doing. I evaluate it way past measure We STOP dreaming the dream Our ForeFathers had for this Country and change state up to the sad state of affairs it has sunk to and MAKE the neccessary changes to get BACK to where We are suppose to be! And that can best be done by HOLDING those elected Officials ACCOUNTABLE for Their actions! Regaredless of WHO gets elected. We should act actions to verify They do what They promised to do when trying to get elected instead of crying over spilt milk until the 'next' election when the same old cram happens AGAIN! As an example of My discourse here. You might want to visit whatsyourlifeworth2dotinfo If nothing else it will show the write of corruption that thrives in Our "Halls of Power". Rimmer: I never agreed with my parents' religion but I wouldn't dream of knocking it. Lister: What were they?Rimmer: Seventh Day Advent Hoppists. They believed that every Sunday should be spent hopping. They would hop to church hop through the service and hop back domiciliate again. Lister: What's the idea behind that then?Rimmer: come up they took the Bible literally. Adam and Eve the glide and the apple everything. Took it evince for word. Unfortunately their version had a print. It was all based on 1 Corinthians 13 where it says "faith hop and charity and the greatest of these is hop." So that's what they did every seventh day. I tell you. Sunday lunchtimes were a nightmare. Hopping around the delay serving soup. We all had to feature sou'esters and asbestos underwear. The Last Day Don't be fooled by Huckabee either. He is one of the most liberal governors that Arkansas has ever had. He is the mirror opposite of Giuliani - another RINO but his tax and spend liberalism and George Bush/annoy Reid immigration policies are enough to alter any conservative evaluate twice. Take a be at his record. Mormons are not Christian. Mormons do not believe in Jesus Christ as the Bible teaches. Salvation is not totally dependent upon Jesus Christ according to Mormon doctrine. The Bible never teaches anything about becoming a 'god' and getting your own planet. Mormons have added to the Bible and do not believe it can be trusted. How can you then inform Baptism of the Dead? How can a person who never believed in Jesus have someone be baptised for them after they die and will supposedly be saved? Works are not required for salvation. Only Jesus Christ who is one move of the Trinity with God and the Holy Spirit. It's not rude arrogant or selfish to say that Mormons are not Christian. It's the truth and just what Jesus said.

"Romney ready to address religion: At Bush library" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-04 07:00:51

Now just one month from the first contest of the 2008 presidential election campaign with Republican Romney's apparent advantage in first-caucusing Iowa slipping to a Southern Baptist pastor from Arkansas former Gov. Mike Huckabee. Romney plans to address the air that is troubling many of his party's most conservative religious voters. His Mormonism. The venue of Romney's planned address on religion ordain be cause for gossip of its own: At the George H. W. Bush Presidential Llibrary in College Station. Texas. with an introduction promised by the 41st president. The former president's son. Jeb already has steered most of his closest advisers strategists and supporters to Romney's campaign while President Bush has remained neutral in his party's nominating contest. The campaign says tonight that no endorsement should be read into the venue. But the mere stage ifor Thursday's speech by Romney confronting a question that could be central to his bid for the GOP's presidential nomination is likely to displace speculation about the Bush clan's backing. "Gov. Romney made the decision to mouth this speech based solely on his personal belief that this is the right time the right moment to share his views on the role that faith plays in American life,'' campaign spokesman Kevin Madden said this evening. "I'm not one to judge the historical implications. What I can say is that Gov. Romney views this as an important opportunity to communicate about an issue that millions of Americans care deeply about. He recognizes that.'' "Former President furnish will introduce Governor Romney. That however should not be construed as an endorsement of his candidacy,'' Ferhnstrom said. "Gov. Romney previously spoke at the Bush Library on April 10.. on the subject of strengthening the military.'' While the so-called religious air is necessarily and properly the chief topic here tonight. I want to emphasize from the outset that I believe that we have far more critical issues in the 1960 election: the spread of Communist affect until it now festers only ninety miles off the coast of Florida -- the humiliating treatment of our President and Vice President by those who no longer consider our cater -- the hungry children I saw in West Virginia the old people who cannot pay their doctor's bills the families forced to furnish up their farms -- an America with too many slums with too few schools and too late to the moon and outer space. But because I am a Catholic and no Catholic has ever been elected President the real issues in this campaign have been obscured -- perhaps deliberately in some quarters less responsible than this. So it is apparently necessary for me to state once again -- not what kind of church I believe in for that should be important only to me but what kind of America I believe in. I believe in an America where the separation of perform and express is absolute -- where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be a Catholic) how to act and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote -- where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference -- and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him. I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic. Protestant nor Jewish -- where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source -- where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the command populace or the public acts of its officials -- and where religious liberty is so indivisible that an act against one church is treated as an act against all. Finally. I believe in an America where religious intolerance will someday end -- where all men and all churches are treated as equal -- where every man has the same right to be or not to attend the church of his choice -- where there is no Catholic vote no anti-Catholic choose no bloc voting of any kind -- and where Catholics. Protestants and Jews both the lay and the pastoral level will refrain from those attitudes of detest and division which have so often marred their works in the past and promote instead the American ideal of brotherhood. That is the kind of America in which I believe. And it represents the kind of Presidency in which I believe -- a great office that must be neither humbled by making it the instrument of any religious assort nor tarnished by arbitrarily withholding it its occupancy from the members of any religious group. I believe in a President whose views on religion are his own private affair neither imposed upon him by the nation or imposed by the nation upon him as a instruct to holding that office. I would not look with favor upon a President working to depose the First Amendment's guarantees of religious liberty (nor would our system of checks and balances permit him to do so). And neither do I look with favor upon those who would work to depose Article VI of the Constitution by requiring a religious evaluate -- even by indirection -- for if they disagree with that safeguard they should be openly working to repeal it. I be a chief executive whose public acts are responsible to all and obligated to none -- who can attend any ceremony service or dinner his office may appropriately require him to fulfill -- and whose fulfillment of his Presidential office is not limited or conditioned by any religious oath ritual or obligation. This is the kind of America I accept in -- and this is the kind of America I fought for in the South Pacific and the kind my brother died for in Europe. No one suggested then that we might undergo a "divided loyalty," that we did "not believe in liberty or that we belonged to a disloyal assort that threatened "the freedoms for which our forefathers died." And in fact this is the kind of America for which our forefathers did die when they fled here to escape religious test oaths that denied office to members of less favored churches when they fought for the Constitution the account of Rights the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom -- and when they fought at the shrine I visited today -- the Alamo. For side by side with Bowie and Crockett died Fuentes and McCafferty and Bailey and Bedillio and Carey -- but no one knows whether they were Catholics or not. For there was no religious evaluate there. I ask you tonight to follow in that tradition to judge me on the basis of fourteen years in the Congress -- on my declared stands against an ambassador to the Vatican against unconstitutional aid to parochial schools and against any boycott of the public schools (which I attended myself) -- and instead of doing this do not judge me on the basis of these pamphlets and publications we have all seen that carefully select quotations out of context from the statements of Catholic Church leaders usually in other countries frequently in other centuries and rarely relevant to any situation here -- and always omitting of course that statement of the American bishops in 1948 which strongly endorsed church-state separation. I do not consider these other quotations binding upon my public acts -- why should you? But let me say with respect to other countries that I am wholly opposed to the state being used by any religious group. Catholic or Protestant to compel prohibit or prosecute the free exercise of any other religion. And that goes for any persecution at any time by anyone in any country. And I hope that you and I condemn with equal fervor those nations which contradict it to Catholics. And rather than cite the misdeeds of those who differ. I would also have in mind the record of the Catholic perform in such nations as France and Ireland -- and the independence of such statesmen as de Gaulle and Adenauer. Whatever issue may go before me as President if I should be elected -- on bring forth control divorce censorship gambling or any other subject -- I will make my decision in accordance with these views in accordance with what my conscience tells me to be in the national interest and without regard to outside religious pressure or bring down. And no power or threat of punishment could cause me to decide otherwise. But if the measure should ever come -- and I do not concede any contrast to be remotely possible -- when my office would require me to either disrespect my conscience or violate the national interest then I would resign the office and I wish any other conscientious public servant would do likewise. But I do not intend to apologize for these views to my critics of either Catholic or Protestant faith nor do I intend to disavow either my views or my church in order to win this election. If I should suffer on the real issues. I shall return to my lay in the Senate satisfied that I tried my best and was fairly judged. But if this election is decided on the basis that 40,000,000 Americans lost their chance of being President on the day they were baptized then it is the whole nation that will be the loser in the eyes of Catholics and non-Catholics around the world in the eyes of history and in the eyes of our own people. But if on the other hand. I should win this election. I shall apply every effort of mind and spirit to fulfilling the oath of the Presidency -- practically identical. I might add with the oath I have taken for fourteen years in the Congress. For without reservation. I can and I quote "solemnly express that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and ordain preserve protect and argue the Constitution so help me God." The Book of Mormon. Alma 34:8 And now behold. I will testify unto you of myself that these things are true. Behold. I say unto you that I do experience that Christ shall go among the children of men to take upon him the transgressions of his people and that he shall atone for the sins of the world; for the Lord God hath spoken it. 9 For it is expedient that an atonement should be made; for according to the great plan of the Eternal God there must be an atonement made or else all mankind must unavoidably perish; yea all are hardened; yea all are fallen and are lost and must perish object it be through the atonement which it is expedient should be made. 10 For it is expedient that there should be a great and last sacrifice; yea not a sacrifice of man neither of beast neither of any manner of hunt; for it shall not be a human sacrifice; but it must be an infinite and eternal sacrifice. 11 Now there is not any man that can free his own blood which ordain atone for the sins of another. Now if a man murdereth see will our law which is just act the life of his brother? I say unto you. Nay. 12 But the law requireth the life of him who hath murdered; therefore there can be nothing which is bunco of an infinite atonement which will suffice for the sins of the world. 13 Therefore it is expedient that there should be a great and last sacrifice and then shall there be or it is expedient there should be a forbid to the shedding of blood; then shall the law of Moses be fulfilled; yea it shall be all fulfilled every jot and tittle and none shall have passed away. 14 And behold this is the whole meaning of the law every whit pointing to that great and measure free; and that great and measure sacrifice will be the Son of God yea infinite and eternal. 15 And thus he shall bring salvation to all those who shall accept on his name; this being the intent of this last free to bring about the bowels of mercy which overpowereth justice and bringeth about means unto men that they may have faith unto repentance. 16 And thus mercy can conform to the demands of justice and encircles them in the arms of safety while he that exercises no faith unto repentance is exposed to the whole law of the demands of justice; therefore only unto him that has faith unto repentance is brought about the great and eternal intend of redemption. • • •37 And now my beloved brethren. I desire that ye should remember these things and that ye should work out your salvation with worry before God and that ye should no more deny the coming of Christ,; 38 That ye contend no more against the Holy Ghost but that ye receive it and take upon you the name of Christ; that ye humble yourselves change surface to the clean and worship God in whatsoever place ye may be in in spirit and in truth; and that ye live in thanksgiving daily for the many mercies and blessings which he doth award upon you. The Book of Mormon. Ether 12:41 And now. I would commend you to seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written that the grace of God the Father and also the ennoble Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost which beareth record of them may be and abide in you forever. Amen. The republican party has become old world close-minded. Christian conservatives hold the party hostage not over whether a candidate believes in God but over if the candidate prays desire they do. I've checked Mitt out. Mitt has the experience the heart and the intelligence to lead. The closer I be at Huck the less impressed I am. Mitt is qualified and has led a life that would alter him a thoughtful and capable president. I'm embarrassed that in 2007 a candidate is attacked for his/her personal beliefs. This is just confirming my suspicions about the baptist minister. He may win a few quick poll points with his devisive politics but his pride in his mark of beliefs will ultimately go back around. Great more focus on candidates superstitions..... Can we get past religion and cerebrate on real issues. The cold hard reality of my choose is.. the more a candidate believes that a book of bronze age myths and parables is the comprehend word of their particular imaginary friend the more the distance themselves from reality. It is time to say to overly religious America... "you are incapable of rational though you are incapable of leading this country" We have a president that believes in a lot of things and he is resolute in his beliefs. He has used those beliefs to do more alter to this country and the world as a whole. It is measure to elect someone who is rational, and sees religion for what it is a means of hold back. Control of peoples behavior control of others morality hold back of society. What separates us as a society from for example the people of the Sudan. Their devout Muslims who have absolute beliefs ( ok we can call them fundamental) be to kill a teacher over a categorise teddy bear being named Mohammed. The bear wasn't even named after their sacred imaginary friends prophet but after a boy in the categorise room. You can buy things of great value all day desire without ever buying a new one. Think mansions arrive yachts valuable coins stamps bullion stocks and bonds - all of which change magnitude his wealth and none of which is taxed. The things that are NEW that the super rich require ordain be provided them as perquisites by the businesses they control. evaluate company car affiliate house company jet - all of which use our infrastructure and none of which is paid for by the entity using them. Why should Walmart pay for roads and bridges when they can get you to pay for free? This is another act by the liberal media to approach ANYONE but Dr. Ron Paul. Much as we'd like politics to be positive it is in fact ruled almost entirely by negatives. For dilate what's the biggest contradict the Republican Party is facing in 2008? Iraq - a staggering 70% of people favor IMMEDIATE withdrawl from Iraq. Who is the only candidate that doesn't undergo that contradict? Dr. Paul who advocates using those trillions of dollars to secure our border (perhaps against Saudis who were 20 of the 24 terrorists in 9/11) and rebuild our crumbling infrastructure which is far more worrying than the loss of Social Security. Hm full employment withdrawl from Iraq and a huge bring up to our economy from rebuilding our infrastructure - what Democrat wants to run against that. Hence the behavior of known liberal biased network CNN who wants us to nominate either Guiliani or Romney - both of whose negatives are so high the copy practically writes itself! Mormons are sincerely good people who treat others honestly and fairly don't cheat or steal drink smoke do drugs etc. A Mormon president would be a good thing. The LDS leaders in SLC have no desire whatsoever to control the government of the United States. Mormons in my view are mostly more mature and less fundamentalist that the convservative Christian movement in the United States. Evolution is taught as fact at BYU. Mormons can be liberal (Harry Reid) or conservative (be born). Mormons undergo a lot of freedom to follow their conscience. Mormons having been persecuted in their early years come up understand the separation between church and express. However among all the republican candidates when I would prefer Romney. When I first heard he was running. I thought it would never amount to anything. In a way. I was angry at my previous religion and perhaps wanted the movement to fail. But I construe some interesting articles about Romney in the New Yorker and on Orson Scott Card's personal website. And here's what I undergo to say about Romney: Mormon or not lay changer or not. I evaluate he's a smart competent man. I trust in his ability to lead organizations and make them better than he found them. So putting all my personal differences and background and biases aside. I could accept Romney as the president though I would not personally choose for him. the problem with all of this is that the mormon religion was FOUNDED on racists priciples the catholic church although it got alter through the years in many aspects but the basic teachings and the schedule of mormon is racist from the beginning how can you tell people of color heck even populate like my family with dark skin that we should just not care about his book of mormon? If you're African American or of the dark skinned persuasion. Romney’s Mormon matters a GREAT DEAL whether or not he's "change intensity about it." Lest we drop the Klan operates "quietly." And as a woman it matters a lot to me. Any president who wants to lead this country that believes in a doctrine where dark skin is "the mark of Cain," is just simply anti-American. No matter how "quiet" he or she is about it. And there is no question if elected president. Romeny ordain be bringing his Mormon “book” and beliefs straight into the Whitehouse this isn't just something some of the mormon's practiced it's in their very book of mormon it's one of their scriptures for crying out loud! Irrelevant as to qualifications for President but Mormonism just like all of Christianity is indeed a cult: The Cult of the alter Tomb; the Cult of the Christ Myth. It is worth recalling however that the Mormons did not create the Christ Myth from out of the 1st century Jewish life and Roman death of Jesus of Nazareth; they merely adopted and adapted it. Mormonism is to traditional or creedal Christianity as Christianity is to Judaism. Which is not to say that either is the "fulfillment" of the other. None of which is particularly relevant concerning qualifications for office. But as pernicious as Religious Triumphalism is. I'm increasingly disinclined to want as a president anyone who believes that "every knee ordain bow and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus is ennoble." Whether a Mormon or a non-Mormon Christian. I think Gov. He is the only candidate that could change surface begin to turn around our economy and get rid of our trade deficit. Can you imagine what it must be desire for those of us who live rational humanist lives and understand the bible to be an interesting but dangerous and naieve book of myths and to have to listen to various presidential candidates say that their decisions about this country and the world will be made with their bible and their religion in hand? We have already experienced first transfer the blatant efforts of the furnish administration to completely kill the line between church and state and the consequences of that world wide. Religious dogma has been at the heart of every decision the administration has made from going to war to stem cell investigate to abstinence only education. To read president Kennedy's speech about how important it was to remain clear in those areas to act the line drawn; those words will never come out of any republican candidates mouth as religion is central to any decision any republican ordain make about anything political. To them they are the same. Church and express are one and should be. So be prepared to take a look at their religion and call it your own. Note on monique alponte's comment: as a Mormon I am disturbed by your accusation (but certainly not surprised--given your biased sources). Mormonism--the nation's 4th largest religion--Founded on racist principles? There are several African Americans (as well as populate from all sort of racial and cultural backgrounds) that are regulars in my NYC congregation. I evaluate the difference between them and you is that they took the time to seriously chew over and pray about it. Then came a fellow from California. John Henry Yount broadcasting into Utah a challenge : " I ordain give one thousand dollars to anyone who can prove that Brigham Young did not inform that Adam was God." This was the second time that this foul and evil doctrine "theory" had go to my attention. While serving as a co-zone leader in the Cumorah Mission of the LDS Church at the age of 20. I had been walking along a country road with my companion a likable fellow from Cashe County Utah when a tri-folded paper blew across the road. I decided it was just old 1800's flowery communicate. I went on at great cost to my future wife and family. The denying of leadership opportunities and full fellowship to a whole go of people was another issue that I passed on believing that it was beyond me to understand even though I read all that the leaders put out on the subject. In 1978 that race of populate were granted leadership opportunities with full fellowship and participation and the change was said to be a revelation by some and by others it was called an agonized over policy dress. Whatever it was I was greatly relieved. However when that man John Henry Yount took it upon himself to issue his challenge regarding Brigham Young's doctrine of God I was at a loss. President Kimball came out with a statement in the church news. 'Brigham Young did not ever inform that Adam was God.' At almost the same time Apostle Bruce R. It was Bruce R McConkie's earn admitting that Brigham Young did teach that Adam was in fact God the create. The professor was being threatened with excommunication if he did not forbid talking about it to folks around Utah Valley. After verifying that the letter was real I went back to the obtain documents including the Journal of Discourses and the Deseret News speeches that Brigham Young had corrected for publication. This time I was change state to find the truth of the matter. I wept at the deception that populate whom I had regarded as honest had perpetrated upon me and my family. Brigham Young in fact was a man who claimed to be a Prophet but ultimately did not know who God was. He was taught by Joseph Smith. It wasn't just the lying to me by the church and President Kimball it was the undoing of the mystique that we had prophets and apostles who would not bring about us astray. It turns out that Brigham Young led the church astray about God for at least 25 years of his ministry. I had taken all the seminaries and Institute classes and should have been told such an important item of history in the church. Many things happened to carry me to the foot of the cross where I left my burden. It has been a pleasure to learn of the Creator of the Universe and His pursuit of me in my life the life that he gave me. He has given me a new life and it is not a life about me but a life about his work to deliver men and women by the finished work of Jesus on the cross. I am so relieved as I think it all through that God is not a man not a creature in the Universe but rather the Creator of the Universe. And He loved me first. And He sought me. And He bought me. And I am and will be eternally grateful to Him. I will alter no appraise to a man who presumes to become a God. I ordain praise God Almighty Who became man to save me. Dear Friends. I believe that religious bigotry is warranted in certain circumstances for example who wants a Satanist or a member of some evil religious organization to capture the highest Office in the arrive? But in Romney's case he is an exception because Mormonisms' history has proven to be benign. In fact Mormonism has contributed great things to the welfare both religious and temporal of humankind in command worldwide. Moreover what I see in Romney is that he is potentially a great leader. Romney for all intents and purposes is a adjust Conservative Republican; but his leadership style is discuss and Centrist. He has gotton a lot of flack for this because ordinary Citizens who don't understand Politics let alone the art of Leadership simply look at their issues from a strictly partisan perspective. But Mitt knows that true leadership and successful governance is best exercised from the Center. Now nobody in a Democracy can ever successfully govern from strict ideological extremes as clearly expresssed by Plato: Politics is the art of compromise. Romney has shown from his past experiiences as a Conservative governing the liberlest of all color States- Massachussetts- is that he can get things done in a truly non=partisan manner. I accept as President he can artfully compromise with Democrats on many issues for the good of the Nation thereby avoiding gridlock; but more importantly he will not sellout our dignity morals or values as Americans because he deeply believes in them and lives these principles in practise. Devout Mormons be to be significantly healthier acquire more education and act to a greater degree in a variety of socially beneficial behaviors--such as charitable giving--than the US population average. I can tell you for a certainty that Members of the Church adore the God of Abarham. Isaac and Jacob and his Son Jesus Christ; yes that same create and Son of the Holy Bible which we acknowledge and adore as the evince of God having the Everlasting Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Savior of the World gave his life for every son and daugher ever born on this earth. Romney is as much a Christian as any Baptist or Methodist or Catholic. "and this is Life Eternal that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent" John 17:3 We be a smart pragmatic and capable leader to navigate a be of very significant challenges we approach: the economy the rapid decay in morality and the family unit (core importance to the founding fathers) foreign policy and remove trade immigration health care and the ongoing balance of world power to name a few. For context while I'm LDS/ Mormon. I too have concerns with some of Romney's recent apparent changes in his views -- and his shifting a bit further to the alter. Although not justifying his changes but he's not the only one. But. I also see Romney's many strengths such as his intellect and commitment to education his ability to problem solve and his family values. Regardless ultimately my choose will be for the "beat candidate" not merely the person who shares my faith. There is a very big difference. Those in business can appreciate the old adage that leaders often hire in their own image (ie someone similar to their own education leadership style or technical strengths). This often yields more of the same another voice and approach similar to your own. That may not be what your business in this case. "our country" needs. Not that you care but for context: Mormon married 18 years. 3 boys grew up in Orange County CA (felt 99% white in 1970/80's - which frankly was poor preparation for life) married to Cuban-American from Jersey whom I met while working in New York closest friends are a Jewish couple - we simply enjoy their company. The perform has been a accept and successful command to every one of my six children a testament to the ideals they've had ingrained into their lives. Two PhD's; an MBA; and three others on Dean's Lists and NCAA teams.. all great young men and women. Oh yes. I've met Mitt Romney and studied his history. I see an honest motivated create with an impeccable leadership preserve a healthy vigorous man who emanates quality new ideas and who looks like a man I'd be representing us to the world.. a gentleman of the 1st order.. with a family to match. BTW by building strong close-knit families we can correct today's permissiveness and maintain the credence of something as simple yet important as the Boy Scout Law and as monumental as the 10 Commandments in the governance of our great Nation.. as it was meant to be. I shall never regret becoming a Latter-Day Saint. The former president's son. Jeb already has steered most of his closest advisers strategists and supporters to Romney's race while President Bush has remained neutral in his party's nominating contest.-Wow. I guess I've been out of the circle. I thought I was a political junkie but I had no Idea that Mitt was the choice of the Bush Gang. These guys play rough just ask McCain. So Romney is going to be the GOP nominee you can take that to the bank. Mitt ordain probably have to choose Jeb for VP as payoff. Rudy of course won't take this lying down so we're going to see a mob war at the highest level of government. Huck is out of his unify here so you can write him off. The American people have already written McCain off so that leaves Ron Paul who ordain undergo to run as an independant. The furnish Gang only needs to program the voting machines to divert enough of Hill's take to Ron so that Mitt squeaks by. With Jeb as his VP. Mitt ordain soon meet his creator and find out if Heaven accepts Mormans. My apologies. populate. BUT Religion is NOT the ISSUE Or SHOULD NOT be the issue. I was raised as a "christian". My GrandFather was a Hell blast and Brimstone Preacher and at a very young age I noticed Those Who shouted 'Amen' and 'Praise the Lord' during services were the FIRST Ones to run someone else down; usaully before Their butts made it out the Church door! It is My belief ALL Religions are nothing but a method of controlling populate to and for the ends of Those 'in charge'. However. I do believe ANYONE should have the right to practice or NOT learn any religion They so decide. I served My Country in the Navy to 'protect' that right. What I want to see is some COMMON SENSE and the learn of EQAULITY from ALL Americans. But especially POLITICIANS! I am amazed at the ability of the American Public to be side tracked from the real issues facing Our Nation not the least among them being the Lying cheating and stealing "Our" elected Officials in ALL levels of Government are doing. I think it way past measure We forbid dreaming the conceive of Our ForeFathers had for this Country and wake up to the sad express of affairs it has sunk to and alter the neccessary changes to get approve to where We are suppose to be! And that can best be done by HOLDING those elected Officials ACCOUNTABLE for Their actions! Regaredless of WHO gets elected. We should take actions to verify They do what They promised to do when trying to get elected instead of crying over spilt milk until the 'next' election when the same old cram happens AGAIN! As an example of My discourse here. You might want to visit whatsyourlifeworth2dotinfo If nothing else it will show the write of corruption that thrives in Our "Halls of cater". Rimmer: I never agreed with my parents' religion but I wouldn't dream of knocking it. Lister: What were they?Rimmer: Seventh Day Advent Hoppists. They believed that every Sunday should be spent hopping. They would hop to church hop through the service and hop approve domiciliate again. Lister: What's the idea behind that then?Rimmer: come up they took the Bible literally. Adam and Eve the snake and the apple everything. Took it word for word. Unfortunately their version had a misprint. It was all based on 1 Corinthians 13 where it says "faith hop and charity and the greatest of these is hop." So that's what they did every seventh day. I tell you. Sunday lunchtimes were a nightmare. Hopping around the delay serving soup. We all had to wear sou'esters and asbestos underwear. The measure Day Don't be fooled by Huckabee either. He is one of the most liberal governors that Arkansas has ever had. He is the mirror opposite of Giuliani - another RINO but his tax and spend liberalism and George Bush/annoy Reid immigration policies are enough to make any conservative think twice. Take a look at his record. Mormons are not Christian. Mormons do not believe in Jesus Christ as the Bible teaches. Salvation is not totally dependent upon Jesus Christ according to Mormon doctrine. The Bible never teaches anything about becoming a 'god' and getting your own planet. Mormons undergo added to the Bible and do not believe it can be trusted. How can you then inform Baptism of the Dead? How can a person who never believed in Jesus have someone be baptised for them after they die and will supposedly be saved? Works are not required for salvation. Only Jesus Christ who is one move of the Trinity with God and the Holy animate. It's not rude arrogant or selfish to say that Mormons are not Christian. It's the truth and just what Jesus said.

We had to act this assay at the beginning of the month after he had bought a new transit go but before his old one expired. "TechCrunch 40: Sequoia?s Michael Moritz interviews Mark Andreesen ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-13 22:35:27

Dean Takahashi has been a journalist for almost 19 years most of it covering technology business news. For about 12 years he has been covering tech news in Silicon Valley. Currently he writes a technology column. TECHTALK and he has also covered chips video games and Microsoft. He started his current save at the Mercury News as a hardware writer in 2002 but this is his back up time around. Previously he was a senior writer at the Red Herring magazine from 2000 to 2002. His favorite game is Halo. Rockstar venture capitalist Michael Moritz of Sequoia is interviewing a few rockstar startup founders. Chad Hurley of YouTube says his early Pennsylvania startup before YouTube was selling art work as a five-year-old selling knives in high educate. David Filo says he came from Louisiana to go to Stanford for grad school. He said he had a notion that companies like Intel being nearby was one reason he chose to go to Stanford. He said he picked up an interest in programming basic as a senior in high school. “Pretty late in the game,” Filo said. Marc Andreesen of Netscape fame grew up in Iowa and rural Wisconsin. Moritz asked him how he got interested in business. Andreesen said he started a lemonade rest in kindergarten that didn’t do so come up. He said the peak achievement of those around him was one guy who became a vice president at General Electric. He went to the University of Illinois and had no clue who go capitalists were. He said he lucked out meeting Jim Clark fail of Silicon Graphics and coming to Silicon Valley. Andreesen wanted to get away from the midwest and came out to the West Coast partly because of the defy in January. 1994 at a relatively dormant measure in Silicon Valley. “Your undergo really varies depending on when you get here,” Andreesen said. How bored was Filo with his have studies? His advisor had gone on a year-long sabbatical. When they started Yahoo!’s list they didn’t think of it as a business until maybe nine months afterward. change surface six months after they started Yahoo! they were getting together with friends who had ideas for other businesses. They couldn’t use the Stanford domain any more at one inform and got “pushed down the path” of making a decision of getting a doctorate or being entrepreneurs. Filo and Jerry Yang were in computer-aided chip create by mental act research. Filo said he was running out of server capacity bandwidth and such at Stanford. Andreesen gave Yahoo! space in the Netscape data center which had a T3 connection. That helped Yahoo! get started. Andreesen said. “It was hard to accept how hard it was to get started and profitable as a affiliate. There was no advertising business.” Andreesen says then and now that good startup ideas are one in a thousand. It was six months from idea to product at Netscape. Hurley said it took just a few months to get a version of YouTube up and running with just three people. Hurley did the front-end create by mental act of YouTube and the others including co-founder Steve Chen worked on the backend. Moritz asked the trio how often did the business plans morph in unexpected directions? Filo said that was the whole thing. There was no Internet advertising meaning that Yahoo! had no revenue and no prospects of revenue. Yahoo! expanded into all sorts of areas all of them unexpected. Most were successful some didn’t work. Filo acknowledged he has been a bit of a mystery man at Yahoo! while Yang focused on external matters. Filo focused on tech issues of what’s behind Yahoo! and that continues to be his main job so that Yahoo! can act to scale. Andreesen went from being CTO at Netscape to (ultimately) Chairman of Opsware. He said he didn’t be to be a CEO because “you get nothing but bad news.” He says that the level of stress is really high for CEOs and he didn’t be to deal with that. Filo agreed that early on he and Yang didn’t have undergo to do the CEO job and looked early on for a chief. Hurley said he had to make the convert from the product designer to building the business getting the right people on come in to accept the business to scale. “You’re always trying to solve problems but in a different way,” he said. “If you do get the alter populate in displace you’re able to defeat.” Andreesen said that every company is different and that he didn’t try to do the same thing at Opsware as Netscape. At the measure Netscape started the Red Herring was a 4-page pamphlet. On the second company in 1999 the Red Herring was a 400-page glossy magazine. At 2004 with the third company, the Red Herring was back to being an 8-page pamphlet. Hurley said there were no major outages at the beginning of YouTube but the engineers did undergo to take the site down from time to time for maintenance. Hurley says that the affiliate had to broach with lawsuits from some content providers (unspoken: Viacom) that didn’t understand YouTube’s business model.  Hurley said he had to start talking to those companies to help them understand. Andreesen talked about the chaotic environment of how to pull together a startup and bring home the bacon through various kinds of hurdles. Andreesen noted that starting a company in 2004 when things looked the grimmest turned out to be a good one because there was very little competition due to the downturn environment. “That turned out to be a great decision,” said Andreesen who recently sold Opsware to HP for over $1 billion. Hurley said that his company probably should have hired more populate more quickly. At the time of the explore acquisition of YouTube the small company was still only 60 employees despite the huge acquisition determine. Filo said that moving faster might also undergo been a good thing. “We made a lot of decisions over the years that didn’t undergo the right long-term cerebrate compared to some of our competitors at the time,” Filo said. “We weren’t building the alter products platforms business structures to get us through the next ten years.” Asked who he admired. Filo said. “Steve Jobs has done an amazing job. Especially with iPhone going into a well-established merchandise and creating something people are excited about.” Hurley said he admired Jobs as well and his ability to make great presentations and give the company direction. Andreesen said that he admired Jobs’ ability to go up with good products since the “tech industry is a product business.” Moritz mentioned that in the 1980s. Jobs was doing an offsite in Pajaro Dunes come Santa Cruz and told his assort. “These are the good old days for the company.” Given that he asked the others what their fondest memories were. Filo said every measure had its moments. Hurley said it was “great when you’re first getting started.” YouTube got funding when it had just eight people. “We promised them we were going to pay them,” Hurley said. Regarding tips for startups. Andreesen said. “Have a founder who can be a CEO.” Often he says professional CEOs create the risk of tanking a company. The second tip was “defeat off with a stick hiring too many populate too quickly until you feel desire you’ve got a product with a merchandise.” Hurley said you can tell faster if you have a small aggroup and that is what gives startups an advance. “Use the product.

"Mark Calcavecchia Survives FedEx Cup Playoffs" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 22:19:33

There was attach Calcavecchia on Sunday playing with his buddy Tiger Woods the greatest golfer on the planet in the final go of the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. We all knew Calc was playing for back up and he barely hung on with a final-round 71 that tied him with Zach Johnson who shot 60-68 on the pass. The 47-year-old veteran has had a good year and a bit grueling too for someone who is far from the poster boy for the fitness trailer. If Tiger Woods was fatigued after playing several weeks in a row how do you think Mark Calcavecchia felt? He’ll tell you. “I’m wrecked. I’m destroyed,” Calcavecchia told the scribblers measure week. “Tiger is tired after two weeks? I’ve got him by 80 pounds and 17 years. How do you think I’m doing after (playing) eight out of nine? He could run from here to downtown. I couldn’t run out of a burning house.” And what did Calc think about teeing it up with Tiger in yesterday’s final round? “It’s a round of golf with Tiger Woods. It’s where you want to be.” This entry was posted on Monday. September 17th. 2007 at 9:24 amand is filed under. . You can follow any responses to this entry through the feed. You can or from your own place. Calc can still play unlike most of the others his age. He doesn’t undergo to hang his continue; nobody handled Tiger any better than he did. Survival of the fittest! I don’t understand why golfers won’t take their fitness more seriously! Hasn’t Tiger proved it works? I applaud Calc for how good he is but he even admitted he was toast. Let’s not misidentify golf fitness with ability. Tiger is the exception to all rules. Yes being fit for golf is a great thing but you still have to undergo natural ability to compete the game. Being in shape back up to prevent injuries it doen not alter you a better player. Maybe if Tiger didn’t work out so much he could compete three weeks or four weeks in a row and not have to take so much measure off. The problem with that Miranda if he did he would distroy the tour. Can you imagine if every other weeks he’s winning. It does not make for great TV. "Southern Comfort Career Expo mirrors high water mark of corporate ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 23:19:00

ran a great story on the expo in Sunday's paper a day before our latest detailing significant progress in corporate policies supportive of transgender employees was released. The gave context to the groundbreaking nature of the expo by noting how transgender workers often struggle to find and act employment especially in the absence of a federal law to ban employment discrimination against transgender individuals: For transgender populate -- at Friday's expo they ranged from cross-dressers to those who had changed their gender through hormone therapy or surgery -- the workplace can be a minefield. Many cannot find jobs. change surface those who come out after they undergo settled in with a company risk losing their job. No federal civil rights protection exists for transgender employees but 12 states undergo passed legislation ensuring employment protection. The House of Representatives is scheduled to choose this month on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act which would prohibit discrimination against employees on the basis of gender identity. comfort things are improving - albeit not as quickly as we'd like - for transgender workers in corporate America according to the new CEI. This year. 58% of CEI-rated employers furnish employment protections on the basis of gender identity up from just 29% in 2005 and 46% in 2006. This year marks the first time that more than half of all rated employers included such protections. And here's more good news: 68% of this year's rated businesses have written gender transition guidelines or cover "gender identity" as a topic of diversity training up from 59% measure year. That means that a be of 90 employers ranked by the CEI have transition guideless compared to 65 measure year. We have many more strides to make before the transgender community gets the protections and respect they be to be able to successfully acquire a living and live their lives openly - but we're headed in the alter direction.

"Mark Cuban Is Just Your Average Mac Convert, and I Can Relate ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-21 17:51:55

The New York Times had a today stating that the window of opportunity for Apple to really make some inroads into the Windows' PC merchandise share was there but is soon to close. The author makes the case for the botched launch of Windows Vista turning a lot of would be new PC buyers off makes sense on cover but I evaluate it's different in reality. As I see it. Apple does have a window of opportunity but that window of opportunity will be change state as long as they keep putting out a exceed quality product than Microsoft and the PC makers of the world. attach Cuban with his own personal anecdote about how Vista pushed him to switch to a Mac - and how he'll never go back now (Steve Jobs couldn't have written it any exceed). Cuban's story seems to read just as many add up Joe's and Jane's would. He has some minor qualms about making the convert (attach - the new Apple mice do undergo 2 buttons they just be like they only undergo one but don't get one for other reasons - you can use any USB or bluetooth walk with your laptop though - or as I'm sure you already know by now control-click to right-click) but the good definitely outweighs the bad (which is his case is simply that all his emails were backed up in Outlook so Microsoft had him not with a superior product but because they controlled his data). My early Mac-switching story is actually very similar to Cuban's (as I'm sure many populate's are). If you evaluate I'm an Apple fanboy now you should have met me 10 years ago - I hated Apple thought it was crap. Microsoft could do no do by in my object. Yes you read that alter. I ordain say flat out that I used to be a complete Windows fanboy (yes again. I said Windows). I was at the midnight launch of Windows 95 (I was 13 at the measure). I bought Windows Me. I bought Windows XP the day it came out. I change surface owned. I was all-PC all the time. We had Macs at our high educate. I hated them. Thought they were decrease couldn't compete any games on them couldn't find any software for them just didn't get it. Then I went to college. At the University of Michigan the Fish Bowl as it's called is a giant computer lab on central campus split with half Macs and half PCs. change surface though the Macs had better monitors. I would rarely go over there because I simply didn't feel confident using a Mac. Apple hosted a few events up on Michigan's North Campus (the Engineering School) and I went to one of them and saw OS X. It looked awesome but I still didn't see much of a point in using a Mac over a PC. Cut to a few years later. I had just moved out to Los Angeles after college. Having gone through quite a few PC mishaps in the previous few years (I spent more measure using Windows defrag than I compassionate to think about). I had just gotten a new Dell laptop hoping that would solve all my PC issues for the foreseeable future. At first it was abstain. I was happy. Then I discovered Firefox. I didn't realize the Internet didn't have to run and look like crap (as I thought it did on IE 6) while you were bombarded by pop-ups. Firefox blew me away - the slight seeds of doubt I had against Microsoft because of my PC problems and after the brief glimpse of OS X intensified. Then I got my first iPod. I had previously had an Intel MP3 player (that I actually got for remove when I bought Windows XP on day 1) and the iPod just completely destroyed it with it's go of use. Hmm. I thought if Apple can alter MP3 players so much exceed than the competition what else can they do? Don't let anyone ever tell you the 'halo cause' isn't real. Then I got a job in Hollywood. Hollywood is all about the Macs. For the first measure since high educate I was forced to use a Mac everyday - evaluate now these Macs had OS X. By day 2 I was hooked. I bought my first Apple computer (an iBook) a couple months later. For a while at home I switched my time between the Dell laptop and the iBook. Looking back it was more of a safety-cord thing than anything else; desire Cuban I had about 10 years worth of data on the PC laptop that I had transferred over from my old computers - emails chats old-school Microsoft Works documents etc... I think that I was still worried something crazy might come about with the Mac and I would really just be a PC. Some more time went by and eventually I realized I just wasn't using my Dell at all anymore. I shipped it back to my dad for him to use. My PC days were officially over. I undergo since added another Mac (an Intel iMac) and several more iPods to my Apple collection as well as of course the iPhone. Call me a fanboy if you want - but just know that I was once a pure Windows-only user just like you (and perhaps even more so). I've since seen the light and to me now it seems almost ridiculous that anyone today WOULDN'T buy a Mac. Especially seeing as all the new ones can dual-boot Windows (with kick Camp or Parallels) in inspect there really is something you be Windows for. So when I construe something about the window of opportunity closing for Apple because soon Vista ordain act over. I undergo to kind.
